Altitude and acclimatization
TRIPS includes an altitude option so you can plan for routes where elevation meaningfully changes sustainable pace and strain.
When the altitude model is turned on, TRIPS treats high-elevation travel as more demanding than the same route would be at lower elevation.
When to use it
Altitude settings are especially useful for:
- mountain routes
- high-elevation traverses
- trips with long exposure above your usual training altitude
Acclimatization matters too
TRIPS also lets you indicate whether you are already acclimatized.
That matters because your normal low-altitude pace does not always transfer cleanly to higher terrain.
Practical advice
- If altitude is a major feature of the route, use the altitude controls.
- If you are not acclimatized, avoid assuming your normal pace will hold at elevation.
- If you are unsure, compare the plan with altitude effects on and off to understand the sensitivity.
