Altitude and acclimatization

The planner includes altitude controls for routes where elevation changes pace and strain.

When Altitude Model is on, the planner treats high-elevation travel as more demanding than the same route at lower elevation.

When to use it

Use altitude settings for:

  • mountain routes
  • high-elevation traverses
  • trips with long exposure above your usual training altitude

Acclimatization matters too

The planner also lets you indicate whether you are already acclimatized.

That matters because low-altitude pace does not transfer directly to higher terrain.

Guidance

  • If altitude is a major feature of the route, turn on Altitude Model.
  • If you are not acclimatized, avoid assuming your normal pace will hold at elevation.
  • If you are unsure, compare the plan with Altitude Model on and off.
