Step 2: Sign in and access TRIPS
Use this article when you are signing in to TRIPS and need to identify the result of that sign-in attempt or the access state that follows it.
There are four current outcomes to check:
- the TRIPS planner opens
- TRIPS shows the access-denied screen
- TRIPS shows the sign-in-error screen
- the planner opens, but save or trip-management actions are still unavailable
What to do
- Open TRIPS from Backpacking Light.
- Sign in with the Backpacking Light account that has TRIPS access.
- Let the app finish its sign-in redirect.
- Identify which screen appears next.
Successful sign-in: the planner opens
Successful sign-in means TRIPS opens the planner workspace.
You should see:
- the TRIPS planner header
- the map and right-hand planning panel
- the navigation menu button in the header
At that point, sign-in succeeded and the account has TRIPS access.
Access denied: the account does not have TRIPS access
If the account does not have access, TRIPS shows this title:
This account does not currently have TRIPS access.
That screen also shows:
- the button Get TRIPS Access
- the button Sign In Again
Use Sign In Again if you signed in with the wrong Backpacking Light account.
Use Get TRIPS Access if you need to purchase or enable TRIPS access for this account.
Sign-in error: TRIPS could not complete sign-in
If TRIPS cannot complete sign-in, it shows this title:
We couldn’t complete your TRIPS sign-in.
That screen also shows:
- the button Try Sign-In Again
- the button Backpacking Light Account
Use Try Sign-In Again first.
If the same screen appears again, use Backpacking Light Account and start the sign-in flow again from Backpacking Light.
If you expected the planner but got a different result
Check these first:
- make sure you used the Backpacking Light account that has TRIPS access
- try the sign-in flow again from Backpacking Light
- if you reached the access-denied screen, use Sign In Again to switch accounts
- if you reached the sign-in-error screen, use Try Sign-In Again first
If the planner opens but trip actions are unavailable
If the planner opens but Manage My Trips, save, or other trip actions are unavailable, use these checks:
- confirm that the planner opened after sign-in rather than the access-denied or sign-in-error screen
- open the header menu and check whether Manage My Trips is present
- confirm you are in the expected Backpacking Light account/session
- refresh once and check again
If sign-in completed and trip-management actions are still unavailable, contact support and include:
- the Backpacking Light account you used
- whether the planner opened successfully
- which trip action is missing or unavailable
